Maximum Ride, School’s Out Forever, by James Patterson [YA Fiction]

by Jeana, 8th grader

The second installment in the Maximum Ride series excels in the same areas as the first one, and drops in the same places. Where James Patterson is a great writer, and has nice characterization, but it leads and opens so many new plot lines (the voice in Max’s head, etc.) and pretty much, they are all left closed. Jeb, despite his obvious importance to the plot, barely plays a part in this one. Where Total, the talking dog, provides nice comic relief, but the majority of the book is boring and a weak ending. The book just seems to stop way too abruptly.

The ending was disapointing and useless. I hated how it stopped at the end, but I didn’t like the end of the other one either. James Patterson is a good writer(in my opinion), he just divides text that could be a single, if very long book, into several books so that I spend too much money. My favorite character was Angle because she was kick- butt in a gentler way (sort-of) even though that doesn’t make a lot of sense. I didn’t like Total though, because he was sort-of intrusive to the main plotline and made me bored.

I agree with Lily. The end is unsatisfying. There are so many loose ends already, and none of them are tied up, so what happens? She makes more! Either the last book is going to be 2000 pages long, or nothing will ever be explained. Also, in the ending, Evil Max says that that the spiders, cages, etc. are holograms. If so, how come Fang can’t get out of the cages if they don’t actually exist? Good action, but in the end, is dissapointing and leaves you wondering: why????

there is supposed to be loose ends so you will want to keep reading.
It’s supposed to be that way.

That is why there is a 3rd book and possibly a 4th coming out.

So hold on to your panties.

  4. ThunderMan55 Says:

there is no fourth. its a trilogy. i have the 3rd book as an advsnce copy(its unedited) itsm the last book. i wont ruin it for u, but very few ends are tied up

  5. Lanks Says:
