January 21, 2009

Inkheart, by Cornelia Funke  [J Fiction]

by Meghan, age 13

If you love adventure and fantasy, then Inkheart is the book for you. Inkheart truly brings you into the story- which is actually what this book is about. (When you read it you’ll understand what I mean.) This book is amazing!

by Jessica, 7th grader

In this epic adventure, Meggie and her dad get captured by the evil Capricorn and his evil men. Meggie and her dad must escape Capricorn before he forces them to do something that could end the world.

Luna: a novel

Luna: a novel, by Julie Anne Peters  [YA Fiction]

by Marina, 10th grader

Luna is a very good book, but kind of sad. Liam has been growing up in the wrong body all his life- he has been a girl for as long as he can remember. After years of pressure from his parents and hiding from the world, he is now ready to emerge. He is going to show everyone “Luna”, his true self, with the help of his slightly reluctant sister. What’s going to happen? I definitely recommend this book for high schoolers and up.

Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment

Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment, by James Patterson  [YA Fiction]

by Aziza, 7th grader

After reading this unique, fantastic book, I was completely hooked on the Maximum Ride series. I love all of James Patterson’s books, but this was probably one of my favorites. His characters each have colorful personalities that make the story more exciting and lots of fun to read. You should definitely give this funny, adventurous book a try!

The Year of Ice

The Year of Ice, by Brian Malloy  [Adult Fiction]

by Marina, 10th grader

The main character of this book is just your typical Senior at High School, except his mom died two years ago, and his dad never talks and is dating again… his crazy religious aunt is trying to take him away and his dad’s affair may have led to his mother’s accident/alleged suicide. To add to that giant mental burden, he’s trying to find a boyfriend, or at least someone to talk to.  A good book, but I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone younger than high school.

Breaking Dawn

Breaking Dawn, by Stephenie Meyer  [YA Fiction]

by Abby, 7th grader

Breaking Dawn is the last book in the Twilight Saga. I thought that it was the best book in the series! It had everything: drama, romance, suspense, action/fighting, and most of all- vampires. It was very well written and I would recommend it to anyone who likes a little of everything and who has read the other three books.

by Jessica, 7th grader

*Spoiler Alert!*

This is the fourth book in the Twilight Saga. There are lots of interesting twists. Now that Edward and Bella are finally getting married lots of new things will unravel. This is a must read if you have read the other three books in the series. If you haven’t already read them, then don’t forget to pick up a copy of Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse today!

Graceling

Graceling, by Kristin Cashore  [YA Fiction]

by Sage, 7th grader

In a world where some people are born with extreme and often-feared skills called Graces, Katsa meets Po, a Prince of Lienid and escapes from an unbearable life with him. On their way to Lienid, they meet Leck the King of Monsea who is with Po’s cousin Bitterblue. Katsa struggles with Po to save their land from this corrupt king. Graceling was a good book.

Rainbow Boys

Rainbow Boys, by Alex Sanchez [YA Fiction- we don't own]

by Marina, 10th grader

Rainbow Boys is about the trials of three high schoolers struggling with being gay in an extremely conservative town. Nelson loves Kyle, Kyle loves Jason, and Jason is completely lost. It’s a very sweet and well-written book, but not for anyone in middle school or someone who is homophobic.

Marley & Me

January 7, 2009

Marley & Me, by John Grogan [Adult Non Fiction]

by Megan, Age 13

Marley & Me is a funny and adorable book that was recently turned into a major motion picture. It’s the story of a couple who adopts the WORST dog ever. Even though Marley is an accident waiting to happen, he brings their family together.

by Megan, 7th grader

Marley & Me is about a dog, a man, and a woman. The dog Marley is really bad and gets into a lot of trouble. He almost got given away! I highly recommend this book.

Twilight

Twilight, by Stephenie Meyer [YA Fiction]

by Jessica, 7th grader

There are so many things I love about Twilight: Bella and Edward’s love, and their anger. The intense adventure at the end is impossible to stop reading- you will be caught from the very start!

Just Listen

Just LISTEN, by Sarah Dessen [YA Fiction]

by Aziza, 7th grader

On screen, Annabel is the girl who has everything- the perfect boyfriend, perfect grades, and not to mention, perfect hair. But off screen, Annabel is a very different person than who she appears to be. With her sister’s eating disorder taking up her parent’s attention, and having very few friends at school, will Annabel ever be able to talk to someone about what’s bothering her the most? I loved this book and think it is worth the read.
